Join me for a day of creativity and learning at the stunning Lumiere Lodge
This full day workshop will take place at the enchanting Lumiere Lodge, a cottage in Hobart that is filled with deliciously moody light and impecably styled to create the perfect backdrop for a photography and styling workshop.
The workshop will be broken up into the following topics, with plenty of opportunity for questions, demonstrations and practical learning throughout.
Manual camera settings
We will first walk through the basics of internal camera settings with practical demonstrations that will help participants to better understand these functions and feel more confident using them.
Natural light
Lighting can make or break a photo. I love leaning into light and using it to help add texture and interest to a photo. We will discuss how light can impact your images, how to manipulate it and how to lean into “bad” light and make it work for you.
Styling
When we look at a room or a scene in person, we are able to take it in in it’s entirety; seeing the full space, the objects around the room that balance it out; the light that falls across the room. When we take a photograph, it can be harder to capture the mood, or to balance a certain space that feels lacking when isolated for a two-dimensional photo rather than being part of a bigger space.
I will walk you through the styling formula I follow and what I’m looking for when composing a scene or space to photograph, including when to add or remove items and why, when to use negative space, and how sometimes “un-balancing” a space can helop to create a more cohesive and natural looking photo.
Story-telling
Story-telling through photography can be an incredibly powerful thing, creating meaning and connection. We will discuss the role of story-telling as well as a practical demonstration, before allowing you time to practice and play with these concepts in our beautiful surrounds for the day, Lumiere Lodge.
Image editing
Towards the end of the day, we will re-group for a session on image editing where I’ll demonstrate my editing process using an image taken on the day. I’ll take you through what I’m looking to correct or change when editing and why, as well as other tweaks I make to acheive my desired look. This section will be recorded and sent to participants for them to try at home.
Q+A + cheese + wine
Lastly, we will finish the day with a chat over cheese and wine, where you can ask any questions that have yet to be answered.
